Christy Fiscer, CMHC
Therapy can feel overwhelming, especially given the stigma around mental health. My goal is to strip away the pretense and offer a space that is grounded in reality, not abstract theory. I believe therapy works best when it’s authentic, evidence-based, and free of 'fluff.' I am a therapist rooted in neuroscience and research, but I am also deeply human. With me, you can expect a judgment-free zone where you can speak freely, unfiltered, and where dry humor is always appreciated. I offer a balance of genuine compassion and candor; I will encourage you, but I will also challenge you directly when needed.
I specialize in trauma, and I am a self-proclaimed "attachment nerd". I approach therapy from a trauma-informed lens, as well as attachment styles - particularly for clients wanting to understand and work through patterns in relationships of all kinds. But I also work with people from a much wider variety of backgrounds and needs. I am here to help you work through trauma (of all kinds), high-stress careers, relationship struggles, faith transitions, parenting issues, substance abuse, and parenting issues. I work to show up for my clients in the ways that are needed that hour, day, and week. This can vary, and I am happy to roll with it all.
Trauma - Not Just Applicable for Combat Veterans!
Many people misunderstand trauma. Trauma is not just the event that took place, but the residue it leaves behind in your body. It is any experience - whether a single life-threatening moment or a chronic, stressful relationship - that overwhelms your capacity to cope, causing your nervous system to switch into 'survival mode' and, crucially, get stuck there long after the threat has passed. Much to the dismay of most people, traumatic things cannot just simply be "forgotten". We can work hard to push it to the very recesses of the mind, but our body remembers and it will show up in myriad ways. This can look like: avoidance, withdrawal, heightened irritability, hypervigilance, flashbacks, nightmares, etc.
